Physical Activity into Socialization: A Movement-Based Social Skills Program for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Lee, Jihyun; Vargo, Kristina K.
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v88 n4 p7-13 2017
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often exhibit deficits in social-communicative behaviors. Given the increased prevalence of children with ASD, programs designed to teach social-communicative behaviors are necessary. This article introduces a movement-based program that embeds social-skill components to improve the motor skills and social skills of children with ASD. A description of social-communicative behaviors and motor skills is provided, along with a sample lesson for targeting each of the skill areas.
