Directions 1984: State Community, Junior & Technical Colleges. Alabama's Commitment to Opportunity with Excellence.
Alabama State Dept. of Postsecondary Education, Montgomery.
The report represents the objectives of Directions 1984, a comprehensive systemwide assessment and decision-making effort being undertaken by Alabama's two-year college system. Introductory material highlights the role of Alabama's two-year colleges in providing educational opportunities, explains the philosophy underpinning the Directions 1984 project, and explains how 10 task forces comprised of policymakers, the recipients of the services of two-year colleges, community and business representatives, and faculty and administrators were established to draw up a blueprint for the future of the state system. A flow chart identifying the Alabama State Board of Education members and other groups involved in the policy review and development process is provided, following which statements for each of the task forces are presented, covering previous assessment efforts, needs, and task force mission. The task forces are: (1) Administrative and Programmatic Realignments; (2) Articulation; (3) Business and Industry Council for Economic Development; (4) Futures Planning; (5) High Technology; (6) Partnerships for Excellence; (7) Postsecondary Policy Review; (8) Prison Education; (9) Professional Development; and (10) Program Assessment/Curriculum Development. A list of Alabama community, junior, and technical colleges is included. (EJV)
