Build the Future: A Blueprint for Early Learning in New Jersey
Association for Children of New Jersey
The Build Initiative is a multi-state partnership created to help states develop a coordinated system of programs, policies, and services that is responsive to the needs of families, careful in the use of private and public resources and effective in preparing the youngest children for a successful future. New Jersey is one of nine states selected to participate. The Build New Jersey team took a systemic approach to developing its recommendations for improving early learning in New Jersey. Envisioning early learning as a system is crucial to moving it from a disjointed array of services to a comprehensive, coordinated structure that supports parents in raising young children. A blueprint for a good early learning system in New Jersey must build on the foundation for early learning that is already in place in New Jersey; construct a framework on the state level that coordinates early learning more effectively and makes it a priority of state policy and funding; and develop an infrastructure on the community level that supports families and caregivers more effectively. The Build New Jersey recommendations given in this booklet describe both the long-term vision and immediate next steps for constructing a stronger early learning system.
