Patterns of Interaction in Family Relationships and the Development of Identity Exploration in Adolescence.
Grotevant, Harold D.; Cooper, Catherine R.
Child Development, v56 n2 p415-28 Apr 1985
Developed a model of individuation in family relationships focused on communicative processes. Expressions of four dimensions of the model (self-esteem, separateness, permeability, and mutuality) were predicted to be positively associated with identity exploration in adolescents. Analysis of observations of families in a Family Interaction Task indicated differences by family relationship and gender. (Author/CB)
