Relationship between the Quality of Educational Facilities, School Climate, and School Safety of High School Tenth Graders in the United States
Bell, Darnell Brushawn
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
The purpose of the study was to understand the relationships among facility conditions, school climate, and school safety of high school tenth graders in the United States. Previous research on the quality of educational facilities influence on student achievement has varied. Recent research has suggested that the quality of educational facilities may have an influence on student achievement. If a relationship exists between the quality of educational facilities and student achievement, information and insight can be provided to school districts, legislatures and school leaders for creating budgets for facilities plans. Administrators and Students Questionnaires, and the Facilities Checklist of the ELS: 2002 survey (16197 students in 752 schools) was the data sources. The data were analyzed using a multiple regression model to examine the effects of the three blocks of independent variables (facility conditions, school safety, and school climate) on mathematics and reading standardized tests. The findings demonstrated that facility condition, school climate, and school safety all significantly influenced the reading and mathematics achievement test scores of high school sophomores.
