Guidance Every Day: A Helping Manual for Teachers of Grades 4-6.
Oratz, Rosalyn; And Others
This teacher guide illustrates how guidance may be integrated into classroom instruction in grades four through six and highlights ways in which teachers can build a fully integrated guidance process in their classrooms. Section A explains the purpose of the manual as helping teachers to focus on the guidance process as it relates to five guidance strands. Each strand is presented separately: (1) developing positive self-concept; (2) developing effective interpersonal relationships; (3) developing understanding of emotions, feelings, and values; (4) developing decision-making abilities; and (5) developing career awareness. Section B focuses on traits and activities of the interactive teacher while section C concentrates on the interactive setting. Section D discusses student profiles, presents a child development chart, provides forms for getting to know students, and gives four profiles representing observations of children as recorded by their teacher. Section E, Resources, lists possible roles of the guidance counselor as a resource for teachers, provides two sample lesson plans, and contains a selected bibliography. (NB)
