Santa Fe Community College Part-Time Faculty Professional Development Plan.
Santa Fe Community Coll., NM.
Developed for faculty employed on a part-time basis at Santa Fe Community College (SFCC), this booklet explains the required and optional activities comprising the college's professional development program. Introductory sections reveal that part-time faculty members are required to participate in a number of professional development activities, including in-service orientation, division meetings, and student and peer evaluations, and encouraged to participate in optional in-service activities that can lead to salary increases. After explaining the policies that regulate salary increases, the booklet identifies 53 teaching competencies that the professional development program is designed to advance. The next section reviews the procedures whereby part-time faculty complete a predetermined set of optional activities in order to advance through the seven steps on the salary schedule. Subsequent sections detail procedures for verifying and maintaining a record of professional development activities, steps in the salary schedule, anticipated results, and criteria and guidelines for determining the unit values of professional development activities. The final section looks at the various activities that can be included in an individual faculty member's professional development plan, including classroom visitations, videotapes and audiotapes on effective teaching, self-assessment inventories, faculty forums, resource persons/mentors, classroom videotaping, higher education coursework, workshops, and seminars. For each activity, the booklet provides a description and explains suggested unit values and anticipated outcomes. Relevant forms and evaluation instruments are appended. (ALB)
