Thriving Latino Males in Selective Predominantly White Institutions
Pérez, David; Sáenz, Victor B.
Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, v16 n2 p162-186 Apr 2017
Researchers focus disproportionately on the underperformance of Latino males in higher education. In response to this research gap, this study explores how Latino males conceptualized and embodied success at selective, predominantly White institutions. Using qualitative data available from "The National Study on Latino Male Achievement in Higher Education," this article elucidates how participants exhibited five qualities associated with the thriving quotient. Implications for research, policy, and practice focus on promoting thriving among Latino male undergraduates.
