The Feasibility and Advisability of Providing a Centralized Bibliographic Service for TAFE in Queensland.
Ridden, Elva A.
This study examines the feasibility of establishing a centralized bibliographic service for the Resource Materials Centres (RCM) of the Colleges of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) in Queensland, Australia. It examines the context in which services can operate, and possible functions. The organizational aspects of TAFE in planning, budgeting, purchasing, maintainance, curriculum development, and program evaluation are considered in a systems approach, emphasizing the importance of quality, quantity and continuous evaluation. Although cost-effectiveness cannot be assessed, future perspectives, as well as advantages and disadvantages of North American systems, are applied to Queensland TAFE. Sections cover: (1) the concept of enlarged centralized service; (2) the client; (3) the State RCM objectives for effective functioning; (4) tasks to achieve objectives; (5) tasks in acquisitions, technical services, production, and resource collections; (6) proposals for automation of acquisitions and technical services; and (7) future research directions. A selected bibliography is attached. (KP)
