How To Build a Strategic Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide for School Managers.
Clay, Katherine; And Others
Strategic planning techniques for administrators, with a focus on process managers, are presented in this guidebook. The three major tasks of the strategic planning process include the assessment of the current organizational situation, goal setting, and the development of strategies to accomplish this. Strategic planning differs from long-range planning, in that it is based on the assumption that the future will be very different from the present. Advantages of strategic planning are creativity, flexibility, simplicity, participative decision making, and rationality. A strategic planning model to be implemented by a process manager and school district planning team is described. The 10 stages of the model are outlined in detail, some of which involve the process manager role, committee selection, goal setting, and assessment of the external and internal environments. Appendices to each section provide samples, information sheets, and worksheets to facilitate collaboration and productive decision making. (8 references) (LMI)
