Wicked Problems Forum: Immigration and Higher Education. Contours of a Storied Decolonial Pedagogy
Chawla, Devika
Communication Education, v67 n1 p115-120 2018
The author recounts her experiences as a South Asian-immigrant teaching public-speaking classes at an American higher education institution. In this paper, she illustrates how she puts to use her immigrant experience by accessing a storytelling mode of teaching and learning rooted in a postcolonial ethos. She humanizes, demystifies, and strives to create a more decolonized and thus a more sympathetic classroom, one where continually strives to lessen the gaps between Us and Them, and Native and Other.
