Following instructions provided in the teacher's manual, the SCOPE Mathematics Achievement Test booklet for grade 3 presents 11 mathematical concepts. Testing items include: skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's to 100, 3's to 30, and 4's to 40; writing number words to 20; identifying and naming 100's, 10's, and 1's in three-digit numerals; reading and writing numerals from 0 to 1,000; finding numbers before or after and between given numbers from 0 to 1,000; adding and subtracting two-digit and three-digit numbers; adding and subtracting multiples of 10 and 100; demonstrating mastery of basic multiplication and division facts to 40; and multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100. Other test items are: rounding off numbers to the nearest 10 and 100; understanding the associative property for multiplication; understanding properties of 0 and 1 in multiplication; recognizing patterns of odd and even numbers; counting money to $5; making purchases and giving change to $5; identifying and writing fractions (1/2 to 1/100); collecting data, constructing, and interpreting bar graphs; estimating and measuring area using non-standard and standard units; distinguishing between degrees above and below 0; telling time to the nearest 5 minutes, using noon, midnight, a.m., p.m.; constructing 2D shapes; and recognizing regular polygons.
