Digital Literacy in Employability of Graduates during COVID-19: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study

Globally, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been the headline over the last years. COVID-19 has forced institutions and individuals to work remotely and increase practices such as social distancing to curtail the further spread of the disease (Al Hajri et al., 2020; Chodorow-Reich & Coglianese, 2020; Garg et al., 2020; Kawohl & Nordt, 2020). Additionally, COVID-19 has introduced a substantial effect on the global economy, including an increase in the unemployment rate worldwide (Chodorow-Reich & Coglianese, 2020; Kawohl & Nordt, 2020). Digital technologies offer opportunities to support responses to COVID-19 (Bakibinga-Gaswaga et al., 2020). However, concerns and disparities exist in digital literacy and internet access, especially for populations in rural and remote areas (Cooper & Williams, 2020; Garg et al., 2020). The focus of this study is to explore how digital literacy and competence can improve the employability of graduates in the State of Florida during the COVID-19 pandemic and what support and resources they need to improve digital literacy.
