In this article, the author reflects on the positive outlook of parents and children with OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta or simply, brittle bones), who attended the 15th Biennial National OI Conference. The author believes that the attendees positive attitudes comes from the positive influences they have had from the beginning. One example of an exceptional parent is Diane Holstein, the mother of Lisa. She was faced with the challenges of having a child with a disability that doctors knew little about. Luckily, by the time Lisa was born, more awareness, understanding and networking opportunities existed. Not only did Diane raise Lisa to be an independent, positive thinker, she also mentored other parents to help their children achieve those same goals.
