This document is a compilation of eight papers which present the advantages of, and the need for, the systems approach in all areas of education. The first paper, an explication of the SIGGS theory model, explains set theory, information theory, and graph theory, and demonstrates their integration. Project PRIME, concerned with the mainstreaming of mildly mentally handicapped students, is used as an application of SIGGS to educational research in the second paper. The third describes the use of process models in an actual field training program in health professions education. The fourth considers a test of the validity of Atkinson's achievement theory. In the fifth paper, the effective use of instructional systems technology to meet the needs of individualized education is emphasized. The sixth paper describes management models, organizational models, and instructional models and their interrelationships, and the need for optimizing educational resources in Army schools by stressing planned change is presented in the seventh. The last paper discusses the cost effectiveness of computer managed instruction in the Navy. (RAA)
