Harmony or Discord? Music Teachers' Attitudes towards Parental Involvement
Dor, Asnat
Educational Practice and Theory, v37 n1 p63-79 2015
This study was designed to reveal the attitudes of music teachers toward parents' involvement. The 13 participants were active music teachers who taught one-on-one lessons in an afterschool program. The participants were interviewed in accordance with the question research protocol designed for this study. Although most of the teachers were in favour of parents' involvement, many perceived it in a passive manner (responded to parents who addressed them), few as initiators (addressed parents and initiated communication with them), and some believed that parents' involvement is necessary only in case of a problem. Implications and educational recommendations are discussed.
