Factors Influencing Physical Fitness Evaluation.
Haarer, Barbara G.
This annotated bibliography focuses on works that examine areas in which the physical educator can improve the administration of physical fitness tests in the elementary and secondary schools. The first part contains annotations that examine modifications of existing components which measure aspects of muscular and cardiovascular endurance. The second part of the study examines methods used in the physical fitness evaluation process: (1) skinfold assessment; (2) test trials; (3) student involvement; (4) scoring; (5) individual differences; and (6) the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) tests. The last part of the study looks at factors influencing evaluation techniques of the educable mentally retarded student in the regular classroom. Some conclusions are drawn from an analysis of the major findings of the annotated works, and recommendations are made for improvements in testing methods. (JD)
