One of five McDonald's Action Packs, this learning package introduces intermediate grade students to basic economic concepts. The fourteen activities include the topics of consumption (4 activities), production (5), the market system (3), a pretest, and a posttest. Specific titles under consumption include The Wonderful Treasure Tree (introduction to the story, symbols, and economic concepts to be used), Help the Keeper of the Tree (consumer sovereignty), I Am a Consumer and I Make Choices (consumption and economic choice), and Why Do I Have to Make Choices? (scarcity and opportunity cost). Those activities under production include Who is the Real Keeper of the Tree? (definition of production and of goods and services), What Does My Tree Need to Stay Healthy? (four factors of production), and Let's Be Tree Keepers (production reviewed). Titles under the market system are Who Decides What Will Grow on the Tree? (need for an economic system), The Birdhouse Company: Prices and Sales (demand), and The Birdhouse Company: Prices, Profits, and Production (supply). Each activity description presents student objectives. Activity sheets, which are provided, are suitable for reproduction. The concluding feature is a three-part simulation using concepts developed throughout but stressing those in activity masters 10, 11, and 12. (YLB)
