This instructor's guide for an advanced beef unit contains 15 lessons that build on Agricultural Science I and II competencies. Introductory materials include lists of performance objectives and competencies for the complete unit, suggestions for motivational technique/interest approach and evaluation, lists of references and materials for the unit, and a competency profile. Contents of each lesson include the objective, study questions, reference list, teaching procedures (with a content outline and answers to evaluation), and the evaluation instrument. Some lessons also contain transparency masters, handouts, and/or worksheets. Lesson topics are: importance of the beef enterprise; cost of beef production; advantages of a beef enterprise; types of markets; marketing options; production strategies; local, state, and federal regulations; governmental programs; associations and organizations; breeding stock selection; breeding systems; beef facilities; beef herd health programs; feedstuffs for balanced rations; and pasture and roughage programs.
