Motorcycle Safety Education. A Curriculum Guide.

This curriculum guide was produced to assist instructors of educational programs for novice motorcycle operators, automobile drivers, and all highway users. An introductory section discusses program implementation concerns, such as public relations, legal considerations, scheduling, staff, students, facilities, motorcycles, insurance, financial considerations, program evaluation, basic range set-up and range maneuvers. Eight lessons are included in the guide: (1) The Motorcycle in the Highway Transportation System; (2) Preoperation Preparation; (3) Preparing to Ride; (4) Riding; (5) Intermediate Riding Skills, (6) Environmental and Road Surface Conditions; (7) Motorcycle Selection, Insurance, Inspection, and Maintenance; and (8) Evaluation. Within each lesson the following information is provided: task, objectives, materials, references, range set-up, instruction, and supplementary activities. Lesson 8 provides methods of evaluating student achievement on performance objectives in lessons 1 through 7. Appended material includes applicable federal and Ohio laws, a motorcycle loan agreement, a program cost-out sheet, a suggested parental consent form, range cards, and a list of audiovisual instructional materials.
