The findings of a seven-year national investigation about filial piety in China released in November 2015 indicate that an adult daughter has a stronger affective bond with old parents than an adult son. One major construct to distinguish family roles of daughters and sons is participation with household chores. By employing some psychological and sociological theories, this article proposes that engaging in routine household chores plays a vital role in the development of a sense of social justice in a child, and it is only a sense of social justice that can lead to parental love being reciprocated by children's love.
