Locus of Control as It Relates to the Teaching Style of Elementary Teachers
Ture, Abidemi
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Saint Louis University
This research explored the relationship between elementary teachers' locus of control and teaching style. This research observed elementary teachers in their classrooms coupled with data gathered from information sheets, surveys, and interviews to determine if a relationship exists between the locus of control of the elementary teachers and preferred teaching style. The relationship between elementary teachers' locus of control and teaching style was not established. However, a relationship was established between teaching style and years of formal education combined with years of teaching. These findings supported several recommendations that may serve as a reflection tool for beginning teachers as well as experienced teachers, inclusive of recommendations for administrative personnel. Further, the findings provided information that informs professional development curricula to promote the development of effective teachers.
