Information on financial aid programs is provided in this guide for students. The introduction discusses where the labor movement stands on educational needs. The contents of the publication are as follows: Meeting College Costs through a Financial Aid Package; How to Cut Educational Costs; How Students' Financial Aid Needs Are Analyzed; Low Interest and Other Loan Sources; Grants and Related Aid; Scholarship Sources; and Reference Sources for Students and Parents. Types of financial aid and earnings as part of aid packages are discussed, and information is provided on where to find summer jobs. Educational costs are discussed for different types of higher education institutions, and paying for college through the Cooperative Education Plan is covered. Information on the following loan sources is given: the National Direct Student Loan Program, the Guaranteed Student Loan Program, the Nursing Student Loan Program, the Health Professions Student Loan Program, installment plans, and commercial loan programs. Grant sources described are the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, College Work Study Program, Social Security or Railroad Retirement Student Benefits, Junior GI Bill, State Junior GI Grants, and the Veterans Readjustment Benefits Act of 1966 (Vietnam GI Bill).
