Basic School Law. "What Every School Board Member Should Know" Series.
Martinez, Robert P.; And Others
Designed to tell the school board member what New Jersey school law requires and permits, this second edition of "Basic School Law" avoids exploring the complex legal issues that gave rise to the regulations discussed. Dropping the first edition's chapter on labor law, this edition adds material on the sunshine laws regarding the conduct of school business in public, and on the "thorough and efficient" law defining the educational standards set in the New Jersey constitution. Areas of school law continued from the first edition include (1) the legal structure of education in New Jersey (authority, institutions, and the administration of school law), (2) school district structure, (3) authority and makeup of school boards, (4) the educational environment, (5) student rights and responsibilities, (6) school management, (7) personnel, (8) school budgets, (9) school elections, and (10) school district business practices. An appendix describes the operations of state and federal court systems as they affect school systems. The subject matter index is designed for practical reference use. (Author/PGD)
