Predictors of Developmental Outcome in Very Low Birth Weight Infants.
Macias, Michelle M.; Saylor, Conway F.; Younginer, Erik; Katikaneni, Lakshmi D.
Early Child Development and Care, v161 p47-59 Apr 2000
Examined predictors of development in very low birth weight infants from diverse backgrounds. Found that low income and greater frequency of medical problems predicted developmental risk on the Bayley Scales. In two-parent households, paternal education predicted developmental scores. Several individual biomedical factors predicted neuropsychological risk. Even in severely compromised children, both demographic and biomedical risk factors affected development. (Author/KB)
