Test Review: Siegel, B. (2004). "Pervasive Developmental Disorder Screening Test--II (PDDST-II)." San Antonio, TX: Harcourt

Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, v25 n3 p299-306 2007
The "Pervasive Developmental Disorder Screening Test-II (PDDST-II)--Early Childhood Screener for Autistic Spectrum Disorders" is a clinical screening tool for pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) or autism spectrum disorders (ASD) designed for use by nonspecialist clinicians. It was designed to differentiate children as young as 18 months who may be at risk for autism from those at risk for other exceptionalities, such as language disorders or cognitive impairments (Volkmar, Chawarska, & Klin, 2005) and from those who are typically developing. The PDDST-II was designed to facilitate the early detection of ASD to enable early intervention, which, in turn, may improve outcome functioning for an array of subtle and complex academic, behavioral, social, and emotional factors in young children with PDD (Howlin, 2003a, 2003b). This article presents a general description of PDDST-II, its technical adequacy, and several recommendations for its improvement.
