Designed to be used as a reference and guide for students enrolled in the CompuEnglish Program at Saddleback College North (SCN) in California, this workbook introduces word processing skills that can be used to write better compositions for English and other classes. The workbook contains a copy of the syllabus used in SCN's Freshman Composition class, directions for using the software package, VolksWriter, and commands needed for work with Grammatik and the Random House Proofreader programs. Five computer lab assignments are included, covering the following: (1) an introduction to the IBM PC and Volkswriter word processing application software; (2) formatting disks, keyboarding, revising, storing, and printing a document; (3) revising the document format, storing the format, and printing a document using the appropriate format; (4) using the Random House Proofreader to check spelling errors; and (5) using Grammatik to analyze grammar and word usage. Learning objectives and lab assignments are outlined for each computer assignment. (EJV)
