Designed to be used by classroom teachers in combatting sex, race, and handicap stereotyping with respect to career choice, this document contains examples of activities which are appropriate for students from Kindergarten to grade twelve. The twelve activities included in the section of sex role stereotyping are grouped into three broad categories. Those which examine social roles include "The Fable of He and She" and "Going to the Source"; the examination of occupational roles includes "Take a Look at the Story Problems in Your Math Book" and "Who's Who." Activities that examine male and female traits have such titles as "Choosing Gifts,""Pressure Point," and "X: A Fabulous Child's Story." The nine activities dealing with race stereotyping focus on history and social roles ("Minorities and the Media"); education and jobs ("Bigot, Bigot, Who is the Bigot?,""Want Ads"); and cultural and personal characteristics ("That's No Excuse"). The seven handicapped student activities help students master general skills ("Leisure in Your Life"); increase career awareness and interest ("A House from Start to Finish"); and increase appreciation of the capabilities of handicapped peers ("My Fingers Don't Work"). Each activity includes information about target group, objectives, related curriculum and occupational areas, classroom time required, materials/resources needed, procedures for the activity, and activity source.
