Adjustment of Children Born to Teenage Mothers: The Contribution of Risk and Protective Factors.
Dubow, Eric F.; Luster, Tom
Journal of Marriage and the Family, v52 n2 p393-404 May 1990
Examined contribution of risk and protective factors in adjustment of 721 children, age 8-15, born to teenage mothers. Results showed that exposure to increasing number of risk factors (poverty, urban residence, mother's self-esteem) was associated with greater vulnerability to adjustment problems, while protective factors (intelligence, self-esteem, home quality) reduced vulnerability in academic and behavioral difficulties.
