Keeping Current. Ideas, Information, and Organization: Connecting Information Literacy and Writing
Thompson, Helen M.
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v21 n7 p48-50 Mar 2005
With the current focus on writing across the curriculum and the emphasis on schoolwide writing programs, perhaps library media specialists should consider adding writing instruction to the learning that takes place in the library media center. The teaching of writing should be a natural extension of the teaching of information literacy. Both activities involve ideas generated from information. This article suggests methods to incorporate the teaching of writing into the library media experience by showing students the connections between writing and research and by emphasizing the importance of ideas, information, and organization.
