Technology Tools in the Information Age Classroom. Using Technology in the Classroom Series.
Finkel, LeRoy
This book is designed for use in an introductory, college level course on educational technology, and no prior experience with computers or computing is assumed. The first of a series on technology in the classroom, the text provides a foundation for exploring more specific topics in greater depth. The book is divided into three components--original text, selected articles by others in the field, and activities for students. The following topics are covered: (1) the evolution of educational technology; (2) definitions of computer literacy and how computer literacy is achieved; (3) general ways in which technology can be used in teaching and how it is used in teaching language arts, science, math, social studies, foreign language and English as a second language, and visual and performing arts; (4) basic information about hardware and software; (5) emerging technologies such as videodisc, HyperCard, and interactive video; and (6) future developments in the field. A list of magazines and journals in the areas of computers, technology, and education is appended. (KRN)
