Tirado Aviles), in Spanish, and "Women's Labor and the Domestic Unit: Industrial Homework in Puerto Rico during the 1930s" (M. del Carmen Baerga) focus on the history of women in the tobacco and needlework industries in Puerto Rico and examine the effects of gender and class on the incorporation of women into production. "The Lives of'Pioneras': Bibliographic and Research Sources on Puerto Rican Women in the United States" (A. Ortiz) concentrates on migration experiences and the contributions of Puerto Rican women to the early New York community. "Growing Up Puertorriquena: The Feminist Bildungsroman and the Novels of Nicholasa Mohr and Magali Garcia Ramis" (M. Fernandez Olmos) focuses on the psychological development of the female protagonists in educational novels. "Entra dominicanos: Una lectura de 'Las cuatro ninas'" (D. Cocco de Filippis) reviews the work of Dominican author Julia Alvarez. The "Portfolio" section highlights female Puerto Rican visual artists living and working in New York. "Ellos/Ellas y Nosotras: Breve paseo por las autopistas y callejones sociales" (C. Romany) applies feminist theory to the everyday lives of Puerto Rican women. Interviews with Antonia Pantoja and Esperanza Martell examine the role of Puerto Rican women in political organizations in New York from the 1940s through the 1970s. (FMW)
