Income Elasticities of Educational Expenditure by Income Class: The Case of Japanese Households.
Hashimoto, Keiji; Heath, Julia A.
Economics of Education Review, v14 n1 p63-71 1995
Uses data from Japanese households to calculate the income elasticities of educational expenditure, allowing elasticities to vary nonmonotonically with household income. Explores whether income elasticities for education peak in the middle-income categories and diminish for the lower and upper ends of income distribution. Income elasticities do follow this basic pattern, with certain variations. (MLH)
