Business, Babies & the Bottom Line: Corporate Innovations and Best Practices in Maternal and Child Health.

This publication presents the efforts and results of leading large employers to improve the health of mothers and children. Section 1 profiles the pioneering efforts and innovative practices of seven large employers and one business group: Haggar Clothing Co.; Honeywell Inc.; Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; Monfort, Inc.; First Chicago NBD; Kellogg Company; Texas Instruments; and Dallas-Fort Worth Business Group on Health. Each case study presents the impetus for the program, how it was developed and who was involved, program experiences, tips for success, and additional resources. Section 2 offers brief profiles of seven other employers who have experienced a very positive return on their investment in material and child care: Champion International Corporation; CIGNA; E.A. Miller; Franklin Life Insurance Co.; Marriott International Inc.; Motorola; and Sunbeam-Oster Appliance Company. Section 3 spotlights these topics: "Breastfeeding Support at the Workplace Can Have Bottom Line Impact"; "A New Corporate Strategy: Promoting Healthy Babies before Conceptions"; "Purchasing Value in Maternal and Child Health Programs"; and "Compelling Reasons to Invest in Maternal and Child Health." Section 4 lists some tips for success. Appendixes include members of the Purchasers and Technical Advisory Boards, a list of 22 resource organizations, and 59 notes.
