OEO Programs for Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers. Title IIIB EOA Projects.
Office of Economic Opportunity, Washington, DC.
The major thrust of Title III-B (Economic Opportunity Act) programs is to prepare migrant and seasonal farm workers for upgraded jobs and to prepare entire farm worker families for alternatives to farm work if they so desire. These alternatives, supported through projects for adult heads of households, emphasize skill training in preparation for actual job placement. Augmenting the efforts in economic upgrading are family rehabilitation, day care, and housing programs. In rehabilitation programs, the entire family is involved. While the head of household prepares for an upgraded job, his wife learns household and basic consumer management techniques to assist the family in making the most of economic resources. Younger family members receive medical, nutritional, and educational support of the type needed to make the family unit as stable as possible during the period of transition. Project sponsors include state and local governmental agencies, universities, multi-county non-profit corporations, small local agencies, and church-related groups. In the document, descriptions of individual programs, grouped by state, include such information as program name and address, type of agency, and area served. A related document is ED 028 877. (JH)
