Contained within this report are summaries of activities of the New York State Science Service for the years 1977-1978. Within the introduction, the specific goals for the Science Service are listed. Activities within the following categories are summarized: services and advisory activities, education in honorarium and volunteer programs, grant or contract supported research projects, personnel changes, and museum library and publications. Research occurring within the years specified is then described. Under the Biological Survey section, descriptions appear within the following areas: botany, entomology, zoology and environmental biology. Geological Survey research is also reviewed in the areas of seismology and tectonics, regional mapping, mineral resources, geochemistry, environmental geology, and paleontology. Studies in Native American culture and salvage programs in highway projects are described in the Anthropological Survey section. Activities of the Collections Management Section are also described.
