Ten Years of Higher Education in Virginia. A Report to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Davies, Gordon K.
The 10-year report of Virginia's Director of the State Council for Higher Education gives an overview of trends and changes in the state's institutions during that period, examines strategies for the future of the state's higher education planning, and discusses the role of technology in knowledge development. It outlines the broad principles of planning and resource allocation adopted in Virginia, discusses the priority of specific curriculum and governance issues, and proposes general directions to be taken by the system in a number of administrative and academic areas. The section on technology examines the conflict between it and the liberal arts and proposes an approach to the college curriculum that accommodates both human values and the contributions of technology but requires a fundamental change in faculty attitudes and commitment.
