The Impact of the JostensRenaissance Program® on Overall Achievement in a New Jersey Middle School
Carney-Ray, Michelle C.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Widener University
The purpose of this case study was to determine the perceptions of students, faculty, and parents about the JostensRenaissance Program® (JRP) on overall school climate in a New Jersey middle school. The population for this research consisted of fifth through eighth grade students who participated in the JRP during the 2011-2012 school year, as well as representative parents and faculty. The JRP, conceptualized on whole-school reform, emphasizes positive reinforcement to increase overall stakeholder performance. This study distinguished which components were successful in the creation and maintenance of the JRP in the middle school studied, and which areas should be revised due to lack of effectiveness. The study defines what type of reinforcement staff and faculty desired to maintain motivation, in addition to what type of reinforcement students wished for in order to maintain a positive climate within in the school. The findings of this study revealed that students, staff and parents had positive feelings about how the JostensRenaissance Program® at Middle School A created a positive school climate. Findings also revealed that opinions about the actual purpose of the program along with perceived weaknesses in the JRP program at Middle School A were evident among students, staff, and parents. New Jersey Report Card data was analyzed, but there were no trends that were quantifiable as a direct result of the Jostens Renaissance Program®.
