A Future in Fashion: Designing Wearable Art
Brew, Charl Anne
Arts & Activities, v146 n4 p32-33 Dec 2009
Art instructors are ever mindful of the need to introduce and encourage the possibilities of careers in the art field. The longer the author has been teaching art, the more aware she has become of the many wonderful art-related jobs and careers that exist. Fashion design, marketing and retail are three areas in which many students--male and female--gravitate. This article presents an art project that was inspired by this line of thinking, along with the author's love for paper dolls. In this project, middle and high-school students develop basic skills in determining and drawing the proportions of the human figure and face, apply visual thinking, seeing and recording, observe works of artists and discuss possible meanings and interpretations, and gain knowledge of possible careers in art.
