Spiritual Health in Christian Schools: An Exploratory Factor Analysis
McBane, Chad A.
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (Washington, DC, Apr 8-12, 2016)
This study assessed the Christian spiritual health of middle school students attending a private, faith-based school. The results provide evidence of validity and reliability for the survey instrument aiming to measure spiritual health. Two factors of spiritual health emerged from the data through an exploratory factor analysis of survey data: (a) the relationship with God and (b) relationship with others. The identification of these factors can have implications for school improvement, academic achievement, and school culture. The results indicate that schools can be strategic in their formal improvement planning and target specific aspects of student spiritual growth.
