Part 1 of this book, "Evoluation and Organization of Physical Culture," examines the history and current organization of physical education and sport in the People's Republic of China. This part includes chapters on: the evolution and organization of physical culture; physical culture in China today; the organizational structure of physical culture in ancient and modern China and in the People's Republic; physical education in the schools; the preparation of physical education teachers; traditional and popular sports; the development of competitive sports; and outstanding athletes and factors behind their success. Part 2, "Modern Sports Sciences and Sports Medicine," includes chapters on the following topics: the history and achievements of scientific research in physical education and sport; the history of and research in sports medicine, and the training of practitioners; recent advances in sports physiology and biochemistry; sports biomechanics; and the development of sport psychology. Part 3, "The Future of Sport in China," contains one chapter which looks to the future and identifies goals. (JD)
