Course Outlines in Science of the Rumson-Fair Haven Senior Elective Program.
The Rumson-Fair Haven Senior Elective Program was developed and implemented by students, faculty, and administrators over the three-year period from 1971 to 1974. The program offers high school students who complete graduation requirements in the first three years of the four-year program a combination of the following options for the senior year: minicourse electives, independent study, work experience in the community, and preceptorials. The program is conducted in an open space building with an open campus policy. This brochure contains outlines of minicourses in the science department, listing texts and other bibliographical references and detailing units within the course outlines. Appended to each outline are brief statements on teaching styles and course evaluation methods currently in use in the program. Science minicourses are designed to meet student requests, to supplement year-long traditional courses, to encourage hobby interests, or to introduce vocational pursuits. Specific courses listed are Advanced Physics, Astronomy, Fossils as a Key to the Past, Genetics, Introduction to Entomology, Laboratory Technology, Marine Ecology, Nutrition, and Photography.
