Steroids. A Resource Guide.

This guide provides information on steroid use as well as prevention and intervention strategies. It is intended to serve as a supplement to drug abuse education and prevention programs in elementary and secondary schools and as the basis for local curriculum development and instructional activities. The following topics are covered: (1) history of steroid use; (2) reasons for use; (3) social influences which encourage steroid use; (4) how steroids are used; (5) risks and side effects; (6) signs and symptoms of steroid use; (7) sources of steroids; (8) legal and ethical issues; (9) testing; (10) the role of schools in addressing steroid use; and (11) the role of parents in the prevention of steroid use. Twenty-two references, suggested readings, and resource information, are listed. (JD)
