Waste in Place Elementary Curriculum Guide.
Keep America Beautiful, Inc., Stamford, CT.
This curriculum guide is a behavioral-based, systematic approach to changing attitudes and practices related to waste handling. Activities included are on litter prevention, waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, waste-to-energy, and landfill. These activities are used to assist students in making informed decisions about waste disposal and its environmental effects. The activities and related material include enrichment and assessment strategies. A listing of the activities by subject area is also included. The five steps of the Keep America Beautiful attitude change system are discussed: get the facts, involve the people, plan systematically, focus on results, and positive reinforcement. Appendices include parent letters, a glossary of key vocabulary terms for use by the instructor, and a reprint of "Overview: Solid Waste Disposal Alternatives." (DDR)
