Kindling: The Amazon e-Reader as an Educational Tool
Brezicki, Colin
Phi Delta Kappan, v92 n4 p22-23 Dec 2010-Jan 2011
The revolutionary electronic reading device, Amazon's Kindle, is already obsolete. Such is the breakneck speed of technology that the machine touted to spell the death of printed books is already heading for the scrap heap, replaced by e-readers like the iPad that access the Internet, make phone calls, download movies, and connect users with all their social networking sites. In this article, the author describes a small classroom experiment that reveals that something is lost when books are read on an electronic screen, rather than in the traditional printed book.
