In this essay, the authors discuss the ecologies of teachers and administrators, examining the historical relationships between workers and organizations. Exploring matters of affinity, loyalty, privilege, cowardice, corruption, and oppression, the authors illustrate how leaders have used and continue to use positional advantages to overtly, covertly, and dynamically effectuate their power over teachers, both perceptually and actually. Consequently, if school/work is to meet the needs of a changing society, then this locus of power must be uncovered and altered.
