Comparative Staffing Units as a Measure of University Instructional Workload. Second Edition.
Colorado State Univ., Ft. Collins.
A project was undertaken to devise an improved method for determining the workload generated by each direct instructional, instructional-related, and professional-related activity carried out at Colorado State University and the estimated workload expected of each instructional faculty member. These load factors specifically recognize the input necessary to complete each activity, and will be more accurate and meaningful than credit-hour loads, student-faculty ratios, or student credit-hour/full-time equivalent numbers. Use of this procedure could allow more equitable assignment of individual teaching loads, more equitable allocation of faculty positions to colleges and departments, more justification for requesting additional teaching faculty positions, and possibly a better means of communicating to the public the vast range of activities in which university instructional faculty are involved.
