This report presents the statements of discipline-based professional associations and accrediting agencies on professional recognition of college faculty for their varied contributions in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. An introductory section describes the evolution of a nationwide effort to open dialogue on faculty priorities and rewards, discusses the factors influencing faculty work, and examines how and why disciplinary perspectives on faculty work may differ. Subsequent sections contain the statements of these organizations: American Academy of Religion; American Historical Society; Association of American Geographers; American Chemical Society; Joint Policy Board for Mathematics; National Office for Arts Accreditation in Higher Education (including the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board, National Architectural Accrediting Board, National Association of Schools of Art and Design, National Association of Schools of Dance, National Association of Schools of Music, National Association of Schools of Theatre), American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and Council of Administrators of Family and Consumer Sciences.
