Reflections on Involvement with Six UNESCO International Conferences on Adult Education and Suggestions for the Future
Charters, Alexander N.
Adult Learning, v22 n4-v23 n1 p14-17 Fall 2011-Win 2012
This article presents the author's reflections on involvement with six UNESCO international conferences on adult education. As adult educators continue to look forward with enthusiasm to the future of adult and continuing education in an increasingly international society, the author argues that they need to continually remember that the mission of adult education is to assist adults to improve the quality of their lives in their present circumstances and future destinies. Adult educators from all member countries are immediately increasing their efforts, and those of their national governments, to implement the spirit and recommendations of CONFINTEA VI, as they look forward to CONFINTEA VII, possibly to be held in 2021. The author offers some suggestions and recommendations for the future.
