Learning to Learn a Foreign Language. Principles of Second Language Acquisition: An Orientation for Foreign Language Teachers.
Pfannkuche, Anthony; And Others
The manual designed to accompany an orientation seminar for students concerning language learning processes and strategies and the design of their program includes materials for five sessions, in three sections. The first section covers language learning and acquisition in general and contains a survey of the participants' foreign language learning experiences, an introduction, and two readings on transfer of knowledge from first language acquisition. The second section focuses on the language learner and the world and includes a classroom activity on thinking about learning a foreign language, an introduction, three readings on affective factors in second language acquisition, and three essays on what can be learned from the "good language learner." The third section, addressing second language acquisition and teaching, includes a class activity for designing the ideal language program, a demonstration of structure drills, and four readings in which teachers talk about acquisition, learning, and language teaching.
